3. Build rapport first before asking them to mentor you

Instead of asking right away “Will you be my mentor?” request a short introductory meeting by video or in person for a coffee for 20 to 30 minutes. Clearly explain why you chose them, what motivates you and what you bring to the table and what you wish to achieve.


4. Keep the mentoring relationship alive with real value

Effective mentoring requires initiative. Be vigilant in sharing feedback, providing updates and schedule the next meeting proactively. Mentoring works only when both parties are committed - no ghosting, no half-hearted effort.


5. Rely on your mentoring board, not just one voice

Building a network of mentors with different perspectives - specialist, generalist, informal and formal mentors. A diverse mentoring crew offers varied viewpoints and sustained growth. But securing one mentor is a strong first step.
